A Cigar 120 Years in the Making!
Jean Villiger started his cigar company at the age of 28 in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1888. The company grew over the years into the world’s leading producer of “Swiss” cigars, renowned for its high-quality, innovative products and tobacco expertise. True to its history of innovation, Villiger & Sons chose this 120th anniversary celebration as the perfect venue for introducing a new cigar that represents a marked departure from its roots: Villiger 1888.
The Villiger 1888, the first hand-rolled premium cigar produced by Villiger & Sons, celebrates the specialized tradition of craftsmanship for which premium cigar-making is known. Its development was personally overseen by Heinrich Villiger, whose decades-long commitment to the tobacco industry has earned him a reputation as “one of the last grand old men of the tobacco world.” His knowledge of tobacco leaf and manufacturing of cigars spans many decades and many miles of travel throughout the world. Mr. Villiger was intimately involved in procuring the help of skilled artisans, selecting the cigar’s premium tobacco leaves and wrappers, and determining its final, handcrafted composition.
Villiger 1888 is handcrafted in the Dominican Republic under the strict Swiss quality guidelines and watchful eye of Villiger & Sons of Switzerland. Using a blend of tobaccos from several countries and known only to Mr. Heinrich Villiger and a few others, we have created a smoking experience which will transport you to a place and time unique to your mind – with no preconceived thoughts or expectations from knowledge of the tobacco source. Indeed, this blend is the harmonious combination of the Villiger family’s tobacco passion and experience with the finest of tobaccos available today.
For the 1888 cigars, carefully chosen tobacco leaf is selected, then hand rolled by a team of artisan torcedores in small quantities, and finally aged to perfect smoking condition. Our partner factory works closely with our leaf buyers to ensure the 1888 blend maintains the highest of standards in both appearance and taste, rewarding you, the 1888 smoker, with the ultimate experience.
